A medium-frequency electric furnace is a melting furnace that relies on electromagnetic induction heating. It is widely used in the casting and metallurgical industries to melt metals such as steel, copper, aluminum, gold, and silver.
The "medium-frequency" in its name refers to a frequency typically between 50Hz and 10000Hz, distinct from the 50Hz industrial frequency and high-frequency equipment used in household appliances.
### Core Principle
1. A medium-frequency alternating current is passed through the coil, generating an alternating magnetic field.
2. The magnetic field passes through the metal material inside the furnace, inducing eddy currents within the metal itself.
3. The metal melts itself due to the heating generated by these eddy currents.
It does not require coal or gas combustion; it is an electric melting device.
## II. Simplified Structure
1. **Furnace Body (Crucible Section)** The furnace interior has a refractory lining (the electric furnace lining machine you just saw is specifically used to compact this refractory layer!). The molten metal is placed here.
2. **Induction Coil**: A water-cooled copper coil that generates a magnetic field.
3. **Medium-Frequency Power Supply Cabinet**: Converts ordinary industrial AC power into medium-frequency power; the "heart" of the equipment.
4. Tilting Mechanism: After melting, the furnace can be tilted to pour out molten steel/copper.
## III. Two Common Categories
1. **Medium-Frequency Melting Furnace (Most Common)**: Melts solid metals into a liquid state: melts steel, cast iron, copper, aluminum, and precious metals; commonly used in small foundries.
2. **Medium-Frequency Through-Heating Furnace**: Does not melt metal; only heats steel bars or workpieces to forging temperature for forging purposes.
